With the wedding landscape in Scotland constantly changing, it can be difficult to keep on top of trends and know what’s new and exciting in the world of nuptials. From trending colour palettes to creative ideas for your wedding reception, there’s so much to explore when it comes to planning your big day, and luckily that’s where The Scottish Wedding Show can help.
Here's what resident wedding expert and QD Events Portfolio Director, Nikki Stokoe predicts will be big for the wedding industry in 2025, and what you can expect to see at the upcoming show in February.
Experiential touches
More couples than ever are looking to personalise their celebrations and make them unique to them. As such, Nikki is seeing a rise in suppliers offering experiential services, such as live guest drawings, bespoke cocktail stations and interactive video booths.
Nikki says this is a great way to add a memorable touch to your day and keep your guests entertained during your drinks reception. Plus, depending on what you opt for, it gives guests a keepsake to take away with them.
Wedding content creators
Nikki notes that wedding content creators are on the rise for 2025 as couples look to capture every element of their day in a format that can be shared instantly with friends and family on social media. Wedding content creators capture content specifically for platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube to share real-time updates and highlight reels, engaging guests and followers alike.
Couples aren’t sacrificing videographers for content creators though – Nikki says that The Scottish Wedding Show finds that most visitors will book both, plus photography, to capture every special memory and remember the day for years to come.
By blending the artistry of traditional photography and videography with the immediacy and personal touch of social media content, weddings are transformed into immersive, memorable experiences, and content creators add a new layer of creativity and excitement to a wedding.
Bold colour palettes
Colour trends in weddings always come back around but for the past few years, classic neutrals have been favoured, with blush pink being a popular choice. Wedding décor trends tend to mirror interior trends in general, and as neutrals and beiges are replaced with maximalist colour and vibrancy, Nikki thinks we’ll see this carried into weddings.
Draping is becoming a popular bridal trend, with layered fabrics and intricately knotted tablecloths adding a touch of elegance and sophistication to modern weddings. Colourful flower displays, bright welcome signs and funky invitations are expected to be big in 2025.
With Pinterest Predicts saying maximalist décor is expected to be huge in 2025, it makes sense that this will carry through to wedding celebrations.
Non-traditional fashion
As more weddingwear suppliers expand their offering to include alternative outfits for brides and grooms, Nikki says 2025 will see more of a departure from the traditional white wedding dress and suit. Nikki explains that brides are exploring bold colours, two-piece options and modern silhouettes more in-keeping with their personal style, and grooms are also stepping away from the classic suit or kilt. Fun colour combinations, quirky shoes and bespoke accessories will become more common as another way to personalise celebrations to each couples’ unique taste.
Nikki notes that classic wedding dresses with a contemporary feel are on the rise. Basque waistlines are huge for 2025 as they look flattering on all body shapes, their elongated bodice extends beyond the waist and dips into a triangular shape at the base of the body. This style, reminiscent of historical elegance, adds a touch of regal sophistication to modern bridal wear.
Pinterest Predicts that 2025 weddings will draw inspiration from the Rococo era – a Late Baroque period that was both opulent and ultra feminine – so Nikki says it makes sense that corset-style wedding dresses are also surging in popularity with their structured support and intricate lace-up designs. These dresses not only offer a timeless, romantic appeal but also provide a customisable fit that ensures comfort and confidence on the big day.
